Gobble Wobble 5k Milwaukee

Gobble Wobble 5k Milwaukee

Race Report

27:38

For the past 7 years I’ve always done a 5k on Thanksgiving. This year was not going to be any different. Although our crew was smaller than usual. My mother, sister and I joined forces to participate in Silver Circle Sports- Gobble Wobble- Milwaukee, which takes place in Boerner Botanical Gardens. I think this was the third year for this company to be in charge of this particular race. I think I’ve participated all three times. This year they had a new twist, the same race company was holding another race in Oconomowoc. They were offering a discount to the fastest average of the two races.

The atmosphere at a turkey trot is a little different then your normal road race. The emphasis is usually on family which seems to attract a different crowd of runners. If your a timid racer, I would suggest coming to this event. As the atmosphere is generally non competitive. I really have enjoyed making this a part of my thanksgiving tradition every year.

The race started off and although a little cool outside it wasn’t bad. I think that I was dressed pretty well for the weather. However, me cold was still bothering me. I struggled to control my breathing. The hill about half way through the course really took it out of me. I felt my “pace” evaporate. Everything seemed difficult. I tried to enjoy my “noncompetitive” race but my competitive nature was overtaking me.

I finished the race feeling slightly disappointed in myself. This being one of my last races in 2018 I was hoping to go out with more of a bang. However today was not my day. I walked around the corner to watch my mother and sister finish the race. My mom was next to come across the finish line. She seemed to be enjoying herself and thinks she may have PRd- got her own personal best! My sister was the next to come across. She seemed like she was having a great race. All in all even if thanksgiving wasn’t my day to have a personal best race. I was going to enjoy the rest of the day with my family
